Camps |
You can register for camps here. Below are a list of FAQs about CMAC summer camps at Mt Hood.
1. What helmet do they need? Hard or soft ear?
For the Mighty Mite race program, kids need a hard ear helmet for GS. This is recommended for camp as well, but if you don't have one yet, a soft ear helmet can work. Government camp is a good place to look for hard eared helmets to purchase as there are a few different race shops where you can try on helmets.
2. Do we need to bring both slalom and GS skis?
Yes, athletes should bring both SL and GS skis (if you have them). Many U10s use one pair of skis for both events. U12s begin to get two pairs of race skis. We’ll be training both disciplines throughout the camp.
3. Is there a typical place the team stays at? Collins Lake Resort?
Families are responsible for booking their own lodging. Many choose Collins Lake Resort or other nearby spots in Government Camp. Video and team meetings will be at Collins Lake Resort. A few families choose to camp or RV. Mt. Hood Village Resort is great for RVs. There also are many campgrounds around Mt. Hood. Airbnb and Vasca has some options around as well. Booking early is recommended.
4. What is a typical day’s schedule?
A general day looks like this-times could vary slightly but this is the general schedule.
(Schedule may shift depending on weather, lift access, and lane assignments.)
5. I see that payment is based on a “per day” basis; what level of attendance is most common? Do most of the kids participate on all six days?
Most athletes attend all six days. That said, the per-day model allows flexibility for families with other summer plans or younger athletes who might not be ready for a full camp yet. Some of the younger kids will do 3 days, a day off, then 2 more or something else like this. Some families need to get back to town for the weekend or other sports and leave after skiing on Friday.
6. Is it common for kids to take a backpack up the lift for sunblock, water, or whatever? What are the essential items to include?
Yes, it’s recommended to carry a small backpack up the lift. Essentials to include:
